- Cream softened butter or margarine with sugar.
- Add salt to flour.
- Alternately add flour mixture and condensed milk to the creamed butter until well blended.
- Divide half of the dough and press into a 9 x 13-inch pan to cover the bottom.
- Flatten the dough to evenly cover the pan.
- Spread the red bean paste (Koshian or Tsubishian) over the dough layer.
- Add the remaining dough on top and spread to cover the red bean paste.
- Brush the top with beaten egg white.
- Bake at 300°F (150°C) for 1 hour until lightly brown.
- Cut into 1 x 3-inch rectangles while still warm.
- Cool in the pan before serving.
