Ingredients

  • 1 lb butter or margarine
  • 5 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 3/4 cup condensed milk
  • 1 (18 oz) can Koshian or Tsubishian red bean paste
  • 1 egg white

Instructions

  1. Cream softened butter or margarine with sugar.
  2. Add salt to flour.
  3. Alternately add flour mixture and condensed milk to the creamed butter until well blended.
  4. Divide half of the dough and press into a 9 x 13-inch pan to cover the bottom.
  5. Flatten the dough to evenly cover the pan.
  6. Spread the red bean paste (Koshian or Tsubishian) over the dough layer.
  7. Add the remaining dough on top and spread to cover the red bean paste.
  8. Brush the top with beaten egg white.
  9. Bake at 300°F (150°C) for 1 hour until lightly brown.
  10. Cut into 1 x 3-inch rectangles while still warm.
  11. Cool in the pan before serving.
