Tips & Substitutions

For added flavor, consider using various types of cheese, such as pepper jack or gouda, to elevate this dish. If you're short on time, pre-cooked bacon or deli meats can save you preparation time. Feel free to mix and match the meats according to your preference. Adding chopped vegetables like bell peppers or spinach can enhance the nutritional value and add color.

Serving Suggestions

These baked eggs make for a hearty breakfast or brunch option, and pair beautifully with Maxwell'S Spinach Salad for a balanced meal. Serve with crusty bread or a light fruit salad to complement the richness of the dish. They can also be enjoyed as a quick snack or a protein-packed lunch.

Storage & Reheating

Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. To reheat, place the baked eggs in a microwave-safe dish and cover with a damp paper towel. Heat in 30-second increments until warmed through, being cautious not to overcook, as this can make the eggs rubbery.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use egg whites instead of whole eggs?

Yes, you can substitute egg whites for whole eggs to reduce calories and cholesterol. Keep in mind that using only egg whites may result in a slightly different texture, so you might want to add a bit of seasoning to enhance the flavor.

What can I use instead of bacon?

If you're looking for a bacon alternative, turkey bacon or even a vegetarian bacon substitute works well. You can also skip the bacon entirely and use extra cheese or vegetables to line the muffin wells for a lighter version.

Can these be made ahead and frozen?

Yes, these baked eggs can be made ahead of time and frozen. Allow them to cool completely, then wrap each muffin individually in plastic wrap and store in an airtight container. To reheat, thaw in the refrigerator overnight and warm in the oven or microwave.
