Ingredients

  • 6 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 1 cup light cream
  • 1 1/4 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 loaf French bread
  • 1/4 cup butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup walnuts, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup

Instructions

  1. Butter a large baking dish.
  2. In a medium bowl, beat eggs, milk, cream, vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  3. Cut the French bread into 1-inch slices.
  4. Place the sliced bread in the baking dish in a single layer with sides touching.
  5. Pour the egg mixture over the bread.
  6. Dot with softened butter and sprinkle with light brown sugar and chopped walnuts.
  7. Drizzle with maple syrup.
  8. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour or overnight to soak.
  9. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  10. Bake uncovered for 40-45 minutes until golden and set.
