Ingredients

  • 6 c. flour
  • 3/4 c. sugar or more
  • 1/3 c. baking powder
  • 3 oz. butter, cold and cut up
  • 3 egg yolks
  • 2 c. buttermilk
  • 1 c. raisins

Instructions

  1. Mix flour, sugar, and baking powder until well blended.
  2. Cut cold butter into the dry mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Whisk together buttermilk, egg yolks, and raisins, then pour into the dry mixture and stir until just combined.
  4. Turn dough onto a floured surface and divide into four equal balls.
  5. Roll each ball into a 1/4-inch thick circle, then cut each circle into six wedges.
  6. Arrange wedges on a baking sheet and brush the tops with an egg wash made from one beaten egg and one tablespoon of water.
  7. Bake at 350°F for 15 to 20 minutes, or until golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean.
