Ingredients

  • 2/3 cup shortening
  • 2 cups white sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 3 1/4 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 teaspoon soda
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 2 cups chopped nuts
  • 2 cups mashed bananas
  • 6 tablespoons milk

Instructions

  1. Cream the shortening in a mixing bowl.
  2. Add the sugar and beat until well combined.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, beating after each addition.
  4. Stir in the mashed bananas and vanilla extract.
  5. In a separate bowl, combine the flour, salt, soda, and baking powder.
  6. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, beating until just combined.
  7. Fold in the chopped nuts.
  8. Pour the batter evenly into two greased loaf pans.
  9. Top each loaf with nut halves for garnish.
  10. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  11. Allow the bread to cool before removing from pans.
