Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup softened shortening
  • 6 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 6 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 cup unsifted flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/4 teaspoon water
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup chips (chocolate, peanut butter, white chocolate, butterscotch, etc.)
  • 1/2 cup nuts (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. Cream together softened shortening, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until well combined.
  3. Add the egg, vanilla, and water; mix thoroughly.
  4. Gradually add unsifted flour, soda, and salt; mix until combined.
  5. Stir in chips and nuts if desired.
  6. Drop spoonfuls of dough onto ungreased baking sheets.
  7. Bake for 10 minutes or until edges are golden brown.
  8. Remove from oven and cool on wire racks.
