- Add salt and pepper to 1 cup of flour.
- Toss the stew meat in the seasoned flour until coated.
- Heat oil in a large Dutch oven over medium heat.
- Add the coated meat and brown on all sides.
- Add chopped onion to the meat and sauté for 5 minutes.
- Pour water over the mixture and add salt, pepper, and beef bouillon cubes.
- Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low and simmer for 2 1/2 hours until the meat is tender.
- Add carrots and cook for 15 minutes.
- Add potatoes and cook until tender.
- Mix 6 cups of Bisquick biscuit mix with milk as directed to make the dumpling batter.
- Drop spoonfuls of the batter onto the simmering stew.
- Cook uncovered for 20 minutes until the dumplings are set and done.
- Cover and cook for an additional 15 minutes before serving.
