Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped onion
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1/8 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 1/2 cups sifted flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3 beaten eggs

Instructions

  1. Cook ground beef and chopped onion in a hot skillet, breaking apart the meat with a fork.
  2. Remove from heat and drain off excess fat.
  3. Mix in 1 teaspoon of salt, ground coriander, cumin, garlic powder, and pepper.
  4. Set the beef mixture aside.
  5. Place a 10-inch ovenproof well-greased skillet in a 400°F (200°C) oven until very hot.
  6. In a bowl, blend sifted flour and remaining salt.
  7. Add beaten eggs and milk; beat until smooth.
  8. Pour half of the batter into the hot skillet.
  9. Cover with the beef mixture.
  10. Top with the remaining batter.
  11. Bake at 400°F (200°C) for 40 minutes or until puffed and golden.
  12. Cut into wedges and serve directly from the skillet.
