Ingredients

  • 3 cups sifted all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 beaten egg
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 2 tablespoons lite oil or applesauce
  • 3/4 cup chopped walnuts or pecans

Instructions

  1. Sift together the all-purpose flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  2. Combine the beaten egg, milk, and oil or applesauce.
  3. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients; beat well.
  4. Fold in the chopped walnuts or pecans.
  5. Pour the batter into a greased 9 x 5 x 3-inch loaf pan.
  6. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for about 1 to 1 1/4 hours or until done.
  7. Remove from the pan and cool on a rack.
