Ingredients

  • 1 cup shortening
  • 1 cup margarine
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons anise seed
  • 6 cups sifted flour
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. Cream together shortening, margarine, 1 1/2 cups sugar, and anise seed.
  3. Add slightly beaten eggs and blend until fluffy.
  4. Sift together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Gradually add flour mixture to creamed mixture and mix well.
  6. Add enough water to form a stiff dough.
  7. Knead slightly and roll out to 1/2-inch thickness.
  8. Cut into shapes with cookie cutters and sprinkle with cinnamon-sugar mixture.
  9. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes until light brown.
