Ingredients

  • 4 c. plain flour
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 3 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1 c. shortening
  • 2 c. buttermilk
  • 1/4 c. warm water
  • 1 pkg. dry yeast

Instructions

  1. Mix dry yeast with warm water and let it activate.
  2. Combine all dry ingredients: flour, soda, salt, baking powder, and sugar.
  3. Add shortening to the dry mixture and blend until crumbly.
  4. Gradually add buttermilk to form a soft dough.
  5. Cover the dough and chill in the icebox until ready to use.
