Ingredients

  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup butter or margarine
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 2 1/2 cups unsweetened blackberries
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup flour

Instructions

  1. Sift together 1 cup flour, baking powder, and salt; set aside.
  2. In a mixer bowl, beat together 1/2 cup butter and 1/2 cup sugar until fluffy.
  3. Add egg and beat until smooth.
  4. Combine 1/3 cup milk and vanilla in a separate container.
  5. Alternate adding the dry ingredients and milk mixture to the beaten mixture, beginning and ending with dry ingredients.
  6. Pour the batter into a greased and floured 1 1/2-quart oval baking dish.
  7. Spoon blackberries evenly over the batter.
  8. In a small bowl, mix 1/4 cup sugar, 1/4 cup flour, and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon.
  9. Cut in 3 tablespoons butter until the mixture is crumbly.
  10. Sprinkle the crumb topping over the berries.
  11. Bake in a 375°F (190°C) oven for 35 to 40 minutes, until golden and bubbly.
