Ingredients

  • 1 small cabbage (about 1 1/2 lb.)
  • 1 lb. lean ground beef
  • 1/2 lb. ground pork
  • 3/4 cup cooked rice
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon chopped parsley
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1/2 teaspoon thyme
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/4 cup butter or margarine
  • 2 cans tomato paste
  • 2 cans water

Instructions

  1. Boil the cabbage, let it cool slightly, then remove 6 to 8 outside leaves, discarding the centers.
  2. Combine ground beef, ground pork, cooked rice, lightly mixed egg, chopped parsley, minced garlic, thyme, salt, and pepper in a bowl.
  3. Divide the mixture evenly among the large outside cabbage leaves, wrapping each tightly around the filling.
  4. Line the bottom of a 13 x 9 x 2-inch baking dish with the remaining cabbage leaves.
  5. Place the stuffed cabbage rolls in the baking dish on top of the lined leaves.
  6. Cover the rolls with the tomato paste and water mixture.
  7. Bake at 350°F for 35 minutes.
