  • 3 to 4 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1 c. boiling water
  • 1 1/2 c. hot coffee

  3. Add hot milk and hot coffee, stirring to combine.

Tips & Substitutions

For a richer flavor, use high-quality dark chocolate and adjust the sugar based on your sweetness preference. If you don't have a double boiler, you can create one using a heatproof bowl over a pot of simmering water. If you want to make it dairy-free, substitute hot milk with almond or oat milk. This cocoa pairs beautifully with Irish Soda Bread.

Serving Suggestions

Serve the Brazilian Cocoa in large mugs, topped generously with whipped cream and a sprinkle of nutmeg or instant coffee for added flair. It makes a delightful afternoon treat or dessert. Consider pairing it with rich desserts like Barbarakuchen(German Lemon Cake) or light snacks such as biscotti for a well-rounded experience.

Storage & Reheating

Store any leftover cocoa in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. To reheat, gently warm it on the stove over low heat, stirring frequently to prevent scorching. You can also use a microwave, heating in short intervals and stirring in between until warmed through.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use milk alternatives in this recipe?

Yes, you can replace the hot milk with any milk alternative like almond, soy, or oat milk. This will give you a delicious dairy-free version of the cocoa while still maintaining its creamy texture.

How can I make this cocoa less sweet?

To reduce the sweetness, simply decrease the amount of sugar you add. Start with 2 tablespoons and taste the mixture before adding more. The chocolate's natural bitterness can balance the flavors without overpowering the cocoa.

Is it possible to make this cocoa ahead of time?

Absolutely! You can prepare the cocoa mixture ahead of time and store it in the refrigerator. Just remember to reheat gently when you’re ready to serve, adding a little extra hot milk or coffee to restore its creamy consistency.
