Tips & Substitutions

For a fun twist, try using flavored preserves like raspberry or apricot instead of standard jelly. If you're out of white bread, Virginia Box Bread works well too. Ensure the butter is soft enough to spread easily, and don't skip the cinnamon-sugar coating for that extra sweetness. You can also add a sprinkle of nuts for added texture if desired.

Serving Suggestions

These bread cookies are delightful on their own or served with a side of fresh fruit to balance the sweetness. They pair beautifully with Mint Brownie Cups for a dessert spread. Consider serving them at a children's party or as a fun after-school snack, and don’t forget a glass of milk for dipping!

Storage & Reheating

Store any leftover bread cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. To reheat, place them in a toaster oven for a few minutes until warm and crispy, or microwave for about 10 seconds, but be careful not to make them too soft.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use whole wheat bread instead of white bread?

Yes, whole wheat bread can be used, but keep in mind that it may alter the flavor and texture slightly. The cookies may be denser, so rolling them out might require a bit more effort. However, it will still be a tasty treat!

What kind of preserves work best?

Any fruit preserves or jelly can work, but flavors like strawberry, raspberry, or grape are particularly popular. You can even mix and match different flavors for a fun variety in each roll!

Can these be made ahead of time?

Absolutely! You can prepare the rolls and store them in the refrigerator before baking. Just allow them to come to room temperature before placing them in the oven. This is a great way to have a quick snack ready for kids!
