Ingredients

  • 2 c. milk or potato water
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1/2 c. Crisco or 1 stick butter
  • 2 c. bread flour
  • 2 pkg. RapidRise yeast
  • 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. soda
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 1 egg

Instructions

  1. Mix milk or potato water with sugar, fat, yeast, baking powder, soda, salt, and egg.
  2. Gradually add additional flour, stirring the bowl often, until reaching 5 1/2 cups for rolls or about 6 cups for bread.
  3. If using a strong mixer with a dough hook, kneading is not necessary.
  4. Pour the mixture onto a floured pastry cloth.
  5. Knead only until you can form a ball.
  6. Cover with plastic wrap and let it sit for 20 to 30 minutes.
