Ingredients

  • 1 loaf stale French bread
  • 1 quart milk
  • 4 jumbo eggs
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup raisins
  • 2 tablespoons cinnamon
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter or margarine

Instructions

  1. Break the stale French bread into pieces and soak in milk in a bowl for 1 hour.
  2. Mix in eggs, sugar, raisins, cinnamon, and vanilla extract.
  3. Pour the mixture into a 9 x 13-inch baking pan.
  4. Bake at 350°F for 1 hour until set and golden.
  5. In a saucepan over medium heat, blend sugar and butter, stirring constantly.
  6. Stir in one egg and cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly.
  7. Remove from heat and add Amaretto.
  8. Spoon the Amaretto glaze over the warm bread pudding before serving.
