Ingredients

  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 3/4 cups sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 1/4 cups buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 3/4 cup oleo

Instructions

  1. Sift together the flour, sugar, salt, and cream of tartar. Blend in the oleo until the mixture resembles pie dough.
  2. Remove 3/4 cup of the crumb mixture for the topping.
  3. In a separate bowl, beat the eggs slightly and add them alternately with 1 cup of buttermilk to the flour mixture, blending until smooth.
  4. Dissolve the baking soda in 1/4 cup of buttermilk and add it to the batter.
  5. Stir in the vanilla and mix well.
  6. Divide the batter into three greased and floured 7-inch pie pans.
  7. Sprinkle the reserved crumbs on top of each batter portion.
  8. Sprinkle with cinnamon.
  9. Bake at 400°F (200°C) for 30 to 35 minutes until golden and set.
