Ingredients

  • 6 slices bread
  • 1 lb. bulk pork sausage (hot or mild)
  • 6 eggs
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • butter or margarine
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheese

Instructions

  1. Remove crusts from bread if desired; butter bread slices and place in a 13x9-inch baking dish.
  2. Crumble and cook sausage until browned; drain well.
  3. Spoon sausage over bread slices; sprinkle with shredded cheese.
  4. Combine beaten eggs, salt, and half and half; mix well.
  5. Pour egg mixture over cheese and sausage layer.
  6. May be covered and chilled overnight. Remove from refrigerator 15 minutes before baking.
  7. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for about 45 minutes uncovered until set and golden.
