- Remove crusts from bread if desired; butter bread slices and place in a 13x9-inch baking dish.
- Crumble and cook sausage until browned; drain well.
- Spoon sausage over bread slices; sprinkle with shredded cheese.
- Combine beaten eggs, salt, and half and half; mix well.
- Pour egg mixture over cheese and sausage layer.
- May be covered and chilled overnight. Remove from refrigerator 15 minutes before baking.
- Bake at 350°F (175°C) for about 45 minutes uncovered until set and golden.
