Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 cup plain wheat germ
  • 1 cup graham cracker crumbs
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/3 cup salad oil
  • 1/3 cup dark molasses
  • 2 cups buttermilk

Instructions

  1. Add the dry ingredients—flour, baking soda, salt, wheat germ, and graham cracker crumbs—together in a mixing bowl.
  2. In a separate bowl, beat the eggs and then stir in the salad oil, dark molasses, and buttermilk until well combined.
  3. Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and blend well until the batter is smooth.
  4. Divide the batter evenly and pour into 2 greased and floured 1-pound coffee cans.
  5. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  6. Remove from the oven, turn out on a rack to cool, then slice and serve.
