Ingredients

  • 2/3 cup shortening
  • 1 1/2 cups brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened baking cocoa
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F.
  2. Cream together shortening, brown sugar, water, and vanilla.
  3. Add eggs to the creamed mixture and mix well.
  4. Stir in flour, unsweetened baking cocoa, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Fold in chocolate chips if using.
  6. Drop spoonfuls of batter onto a cookie sheet.
  7. Bake for 7 to 9 minutes until cookies appear soft and moist.
