Ingredients

  • 1 c. sifted enriched flour
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 3/4 c. granulated sugar
  • 2 Tbsp. cocoa
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 c. milk
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 Tbsp. melted shortening
  • 3/4 to 1 c. chopped walnuts
  • 3/4 c. brown sugar
  • 1/4 c. cocoa

Instructions

  1. Sift together the flour, baking powder, granulated sugar, cocoa, and salt.
  2. Add milk, vanilla, and melted shortening; mix until smooth.
  3. Stir in chopped walnuts.
  4. Pour the batter into a greased 8 x 8 x 2-inch pan.
  5. Bake until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
