Buffalo Rouladen features tender buffalo steak rolled with onions, bacon, and pickles, simmered in flavorful broth—a savory dish perfect for hearty, adventurous eaters.

Ingredients

  • 18 oz buffalo strip steak, cut into oblong pieces (3 oz each)
  • 1/3 cup chopped onion
  • 1/3 cup chopped raw bacon
  • 3 oblong dill pickles, sliced in half lengthwise
  • dash vegetable oil
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 can beef consomme
  • 1/2 cup water

Instructions

  1. Season 6 pieces of buffalo steak lightly with salt and pepper.
  2. Divide chopped onion and raw bacon evenly and place on top of each steak piece.
  3. Add pickle halves on top of the onion and bacon.
  4. Roll each steak piece and secure with toothpicks or skewers.
  5. Brown the rolled rouladen in a lightly oiled skillet until browned on all sides.
  6. Prepare the broth by diluting canned beef consomme with 1/2 cup water and adding 2 beef bouillon cubes.
  7. Simmer the rouladen in the broth until cooked through and flavorful.
  8. Garnish with parsley before serving.
