Ingredients

  • 2 lb. stew beef
  • 4 sliced carrots
  • 2 sliced celery stalks
  • 1/4 head cabbage, sliced
  • 2 potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 1/2 cup green beans
  • 1 onion, cut in pieces
  • salt
  • pepper

Instructions

  1. Grease an oblong casserole dish, large size.
  2. Cut the vegetables and sprinkle with salt, pepper, and a little sugar.
  3. Season the beef and mix it into the vegetables.
  4. Pour the tomato or V-8 juice over the mixture.
  5. Stir well and cover the dish with foil.
  6. Bake at 350°F (175°C) until the meat is very tender, about 2.5 hours.
  7. Alternatively, bake at 300°F (150°C) for a longer time.
  8. Serve hot, yielding 6 to 8 servings.
