Burkauts are hearty baked dumplings filled with seasoned hamburger and cabbage, perfect for comfort food lovers and suitable for family dinners or casual gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 4 to 6 lbs hamburger
  • 2 large cabbage heads
  • 4 large onions
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Rhodes bread or homemade dough
  • Flour

Instructions

  1. Brown the hamburger, chopped cabbage, and chopped onions with a lot of salt and pepper.
  2. Simmer the mixture for one to two hours.
  3. Roll out a roll-sized amount of dough on a floured surface to about 1-1.5 inches thick.
  4. Place a large scoop of the hamburger mixture in the center of the dough.
  5. Fold the dough over the filling and seal the edges.
  6. Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit until golden brown.
  7. Remove from oven and brush with butter before serving.
