Ingredients

  • 15 oz. package chocolate sandwich cookies (Oreos)
  • 1/2 cup margarine
  • 1/2 gallon vanilla ice cream
  • 1 cup Spanish peanuts
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 2/3 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 2/3 cup evaporated milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions

  1. Mix crushed cookies with 1/2 cup melted margarine.
  2. Press the mixture into a 9 x 13-inch pan to form a crust.
  3. Soften ice cream slightly and spread over the crust.
  4. Press Spanish peanuts into the ice cream with the back of a large spoon.
  5. Freeze until the ice cream is firm.
  6. In a medium saucepan, combine the remaining ingredients: 1/2 cup butter, 2/3 cup evaporated milk, 2 cups powdered sugar, 2/3 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips, and 1 teaspoon vanilla.
  7. Bring the mixture to a boil, stirring constantly.
  8. Boil and stir for 8 minutes, then remove from heat.
  9. Allow the sauce to cool thoroughly.
  10. Spread the cooled sauce over the ice cream layer.
  11. Freeze until the topping is firm, then serve.
