Ingredients

  • 1/3 c. butter
  • 2 1/4 c. sifted flour
  • 1 Tbsp. sugar
  • 3 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 c. milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F.
  2. Melt butter in an oblong 13 x 9 1/2 x 2-inch pan in the oven.
  3. Remove the pan when the butter has melted.
  4. Sift dry ingredients together: flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Add milk to the dry ingredients and stir slowly with a fork until the dough just clings together.
  6. Turn the dough onto a well-floured board.
  7. Roll the dough over to coat with flour.
  8. Knead lightly about 10 times.
  9. Roll out to a 1/2-inch thickness into a 12 x 8-inch rectangle.
  10. With a floured knife, cut the dough in half lengthwise, then crosswise into 16 strips.
  11. Pick up each strip and dip it in the melted butter in the pan.
  12. Lay the dipped strips close together in the same pan used for melting butter.
  13. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes until golden brown.
  14. Serve hot.
