Ingredients
Instructions
- Combine 1 teaspoon sugar, warm water, and yeast in a small bowl and stir to mix. Set aside until bubbly.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine remaining sugar, milk, egg, melted butter, and salt. Mix well.
- Add 1 cup of flour and the yeast mixture to the large bowl. Mix well.
- Gradually add remaining flour until a moderately firm dough forms.
- Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead until no longer sticky, about 4-5 minutes.
- Place the dough in a large oiled bowl and turn to coat all surfaces. Cover with a clean towel and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 1 hour.
- Punch down the risen dough. Pinch off portions about the size of a golf ball and shape into balls.
- Place the dough balls on a greased baking sheet, cover with a towel, and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 45 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Bake the rolls for about 8 minutes or until they start to brown.
- Brush the rolls generously with melted butter and loosely cover with aluminum foil. Continue baking for another 2-4 minutes until fully cooked.
- Remove from oven and brush again with melted butter. Serve warm.
