Ingredients

  • 1/2 c. lukewarm water
  • 1/2 c. lowfat milk (I used powdered lowfat milk + water)
  • 2 x Large eggs beaten
  • 3 c. bread flour
  • 1/4 c. sugar
  • 3/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 c. shortening (I used vegetable oil)
  • 2 1/2 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1 lb grnd beef
  • 1/4 c. minced onion
  • 2 c. minced cabbage salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. * (I had to add in quite a bit more to make the dough the right consistency; you can do this during the kneading if the dough looks too moist and sticky; the consistency should be the same as for regular bread dough)
  2. Put the ingredients in the bread maker in the usual order.
  3. Run the 'dough' setting.
  4. Brown the grnd beef together with the onion and cabbage in a frying pan, adding salt and pepper to taste.
  5. When the dough cycle is complete, divide the dough into two balls.
  6. Roll out the first ball into a large sheet.
  7. Cut in squares.
  8. Fill each one with the beef mix.
  9. Either fold the dough over and seal, or possibly cover with another square (if the squares turn out small and thin) and healthy pinch the edges shut tight.
  10. Arrange on a baking sheet.
  11. Repeat with the second ball of dough.
  12. Let rise 15 min.
  13. Brush the top of each with beaten egg or possibly egg yolk.
  14. Bake in a 375 F degree oven till golden.
  15. Don't overbake.
  16. NOTES : I used the 'dough' setting to make the dough, then rolled and formed the rolls by hand.
  17. They're something like calzones.
  18. We like them for breakfast.
