Ingredients

  • 1 small head cabbage, coarsely chopped
  • 1 lb. lean ground beef
  • 1/2 cup instant uncooked rice
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 can (15 oz.) tomato puree
  • 1 can (14.5 oz.) beef broth

Instructions

  1. Place one-third of the chopped cabbage in a large Dutch oven.
  2. In a bowl, combine ground beef, rice, chopped onion, salt, and pepper; form into meatballs.
  3. Place half of the meatballs on top of the cabbage in the Dutch oven.
  4. Cover with another one-third of the cabbage and the remaining meatballs.
  5. Top with the remaining one-third of the cabbage.
  6. Pour tomato puree and beef broth over all ingredients.
  7. Bring the mixture to a boil.
  8. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 20 minutes or until the meat is cooked through.
