Ingredients

  • 1 sirloin or flank steak (about 2 lb.)
  • 3/4 cup catsup
  • 3/4 cup chili sauce
  • 1 1/2 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 3 tablespoon honey
  • 3 tablespoon hoisin sauce (optional)
  • 3 green onions, minced
  • 3 cloves garlic, mashed
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper

Instructions

  1. Put steak in a plastic food bag.
  2. If using flank steak, score top diagonally on both sides.
  3. Combine catsup, chili sauce, soy sauce, honey, hoisin sauce (if using), green onions, garlic, salt, and pepper in a small bowl; mix well.
  4. Pour mixture into bag with steak.
  5. Fasten securely with wire or tape.
  6. Place bag in a shallow pan.
  7. Let marinate in refrigerator for 24 hours, turning occasionally.
  8. Lift steak out of marinade, pat with paper towels.
  9. Broil 4 inches from heat, brushing several times with marinade, about 8 minutes on each side for rare sirloin, 5 minutes each side for flank steak.
  10. If doing on grill, place steak 6 inches from hot coals and cook for the same amount of time.
