- Pop the popcorn; remove unpopped kernels and set aside.
- Combine brown sugar, butter or margarine, cream of tartar, white syrup, and molasses in a saucepan.
- Cook over low heat until the mixture reaches 240°F (soft ball stage), approximately 2 minutes of boiling.
- Remove from heat and stir in 1/2 teaspoon baking soda.
- Pour the caramel mixture over the popped popcorn and mix well to coat evenly.
- Spread the coated popcorn onto two large dripper pans or cookie sheets.
- Bake in a 200°F oven for 45 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Remove from oven, transfer onto waxed paper, and cool before breaking into pieces.
