Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter
  • 3 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup Crisco
  • 5 eggs
  • 3 cups plain flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions

  1. Cream butter, Crisco, and sugar until the sugar dissolves.
  2. Add beaten eggs to the mixture.
  3. Sift together the plain flour and baking powder.
  4. Add the flour mixture and milk alternately to the sugar mixture, starting and ending with the flour mixture.
  5. Add vanilla extract and mix well.
  6. Pour the batter into a greased and floured tube pan.
  7. Place the pan in a cold oven.
  8. Bake at 325°F (163°C) for 1 1/2 hours, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
