Ingredients

  • 1 loaf white bread (Arnold)
  • 1 lb. sharp Cheddar, grated
  • 3 cups milk
  • 1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 3 Tbsp. minced onion
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 tsp. dry mustard
  • salt and pepper

Instructions

  1. Cut bread slices into 4 squares.
  2. Fit 1/3 of bread tightly in the bottom of a greased 2-quart casserole dish.
  3. Sprinkle with salt and pepper, 1/3 of the minced onion, and 1/3 of the grated cheddar cheese.
  4. Press down gently, then repeat the layers twice more.
  5. Beat eggs in a bowl, then add dry mustard, Worcestershire sauce, and milk. Mix well.
  6. Pour the egg mixture over the layered bread in the casserole.
  7. Cover and chill the casserole overnight.
  8. Remove from refrigerator 2 hours before serving and drizzle with melted butter.
  9. One hour before serving, bake in a preheated 325°F oven for 40 to 50 minutes or until the center is firm.
