Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 3/4 cup butter or margarine
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 3/4 cups flour
  • 1 1/4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup walnuts, chopped
  • 1 ounce unsweetened chocolate, melted
  • 32 maraschino cherries, drained and halved

Instructions

  1. Cream together sugar and butter.
  2. Beat in egg and vanilla.
  3. Stir together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  4. Add the dry ingredients to the creamed mixture and mix well.
  5. Divide the dough in half.
  6. To one half, add chopped walnuts and melted unsweetened chocolate and mix.
  7. Press a rounded teaspoonful of the chocolate mixture into the bottom and up the sides of ungreased 1 3/4-inch muffin cups.
  8. Place a halved maraschino cherry in the center of each cup.
  9. Top with a rounded teaspoonful of the remaining white dough and another cherry half.
  10. Bake at 375°F for 15 to 20 minutes.
