Ingredients

  • 1 cup real butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 3 cups sugar
  • 5 eggs
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon lemon extract

Instructions

  1. Cream butter and shortening together until smooth and fluffy.
  2. Gradually add sugar, beating well on medium speed until the mixture is light and creamy.
  3. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  4. Combine flour and baking powder in a separate bowl.
  5. Add the flour mixture to the creamed mixture alternately with milk, starting and ending with the flour mixture, mixing until well blended after each addition.
  6. Stir in vanilla extract and lemon extract.
  7. Pour the batter into a greased and floured 10-inch tube pan.
  8. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 1 hour and 15 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. Cool in the pan for 10 to 15 minutes, then remove and cool completely on a wire rack.
