Ingredients

  • 4 cups milk
  • 1 cup plain flour
  • 3 1/2 cups sugar
  • 4 tablespoons cocoa
  • 1/4 stick margarine
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 pie crusts

Instructions

  1. Prepare the baked pie crusts and let them cool.
  2. Heat the milk with beaten egg yolks in a saucepan.
  3. Mix dry ingredients (flour, sugar, cocoa) together in a bowl.
  4. Stir the dry mixture into the heated milk and eggs.
  5. Cook the mixture, stirring constantly, until it thickens.
  6. Add margarine to the thickened mixture and remove from heat.
  7. Stir well until margarine is melted and combined.
  8. Let the chocolate filling cool slightly, then pour into the baked pie shells.
  9. Whip the egg whites to make meringue, then spread over the filled pies.
  10. Brown the meringue until golden.
