- Pour into an unbaked pie shell.
- Bake at 400° for 15 minutes.
- Reduce oven temperature to 350° and bake for an additional 20 minutes or until the pie is set.
- When the pie is done, add the cream of tartar to the egg whites.
- Beat the egg whites until stiff peaks form.
- Gradually add 1/4 cup sugar and continue beating until well mixed.
- Spread the meringue on the baked pie.
- Return to the 350° oven and bake until the meringue is browned.
