  3. Bake the fried chicken pieces with a small amount of butter at 350°F for 15 minutes.
  4. Add chopped garlic, white vinegar, tarragon, chicken broth, white wine, salt, pepper, and chopped artichoke hearts with their juice to the baking dish.
  5. Bake the mixture for another 15 minutes at 350°F.

Tips & Substitutions

For a lighter version, consider using skinless chicken thighs instead of filets. You can also substitute the artichoke hearts with sun-dried tomatoes for a different flavor profile. If you don’t have white wine, a splash of lemon juice can work as a substitute. Make sure the oil is hot enough before frying the chicken to achieve that golden crust.

Serving Suggestions

Serve the Chicken Donatich over a bed of fluffy rice, which soaks up the delicious sauce. A side of steamed vegetables or a fresh salad makes for a well-rounded meal. This dish also pairs beautifully with Chicken Provencale for a delightful Mediterranean-inspired dinner.

Storage & Reheating

Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. To reheat, place the chicken and artichoke mixture in a skillet over medium heat until warmed through, or microwave in short intervals, stirring occasionally. This will help retain moisture and prevent the chicken from drying out.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use frozen chicken for this recipe?

Yes, you can use frozen chicken filets, but make sure to thaw them completely before cutting and breading. This ensures even cooking and helps the breading adhere better.

What can I use instead of chicken broth?

If you don’t have chicken broth, vegetable broth or even water can be used as a substitute. However, using broth will enhance the flavor of the dish significantly.

Is there a vegetarian version of this dish?

Absolutely! You can replace the chicken with tofu or tempeh and use vegetable broth instead of chicken broth. The artichokes will still provide a delightful texture and flavor.
