Tips & Substitutions

For added depth of flavor, consider marinating the chicken in the teriyaki sauce for at least 30 minutes before cooking. Fresh herbs like basil or thyme can substitute for parsley. If you prefer a spicier kick, add red pepper flakes to the sauce. You can also use canned tomatoes if fresh ones are not available, but drain them well before adding.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use chicken thighs instead of breasts?

Yes, chicken thighs can be used as a substitute for breasts, and they will add more moisture and flavor to the dish. Just ensure they are cooked thoroughly, reaching an internal temperature of 165°F.

How can I thicken the sauce if it's too watery?

If your sauce is too thin, you can simmer it longer to reduce the liquid. Alternatively, mix a tablespoon of cornstarch with a little cold water to create a slurry and stir it into the sauce, cooking until thickened.

What can I serve as a side dish?

Some great side dishes include mashed potatoes, garlic bread, or a simple pasta salad. For a lighter option, serve with a green salad or roasted vegetables to balance the rich flavors of the chicken and sauce.
