Ingredients

  • 5 cups flour
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 stick butter or margarine
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 8 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup water

Instructions

  1. Rub in the butter or margarine into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  2. Add the baking soda and mix thoroughly.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the nutmeg, eggs, sugar, and salt.
  4. Add the egg mixture to the flour mixture and mix together.
  5. Add water gradually and knead well until a smooth dough forms.
  6. Cover the dough and let it rest for about 10 minutes to allow the flour to rise if not using self-rising flour.
  7. Roll out the dough on a floured surface until thin and flat.
  8. Cut into small squares or triangular shapes and dust lightly with flour to prevent sticking.
  9. Deep fry the pieces in vegetable oil until golden brown, then drain on absorbent paper.
  10. Serve as snacks with your favorite drink.
