Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 3/4 cup butter
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 square chocolate, melted
  • 1/4 cup walnuts
  • maraschino cherries

Instructions

  1. Cream sugar and butter together until well combined.
  2. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until smooth.
  3. Stir in the dry ingredients: flour, baking powder, and salt.
  4. Divide the dough in half; add melted chocolate and walnuts to one half, mixing well.
  5. Press the chocolate-walnut dough into muffin cups to form a base.
  6. Place a maraschino cherry in the center of each dough portion.
  7. Top each cherry with a portion of plain dough and then another cherry half.
  8. Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 20 minutes.
  9. Frost with chocolate frosting or leave plain, as desired.
