Instructions
- Beat egg yolks in a bowl.
- Add milk, except 1/3 cup, to the egg yolks and mix well.
- Sift sugar, flour, cocoa, and salt together in a separate bowl.
- Place the dry ingredients in a double boiler.
- Stir the remaining 1/3 cup milk into the dry ingredients to form a smooth paste, then pour into the egg mixture.
- Cook over double boiler until the mixture thickens.
- Add margarine and vanilla, stirring until smooth.
- Pour the custard into the cooked pie shell.
- In a separate bowl, beat egg whites with 2 tablespoons sugar until stiff peaks form.
- Spread the egg whites over the pie filling and brown in the oven at 425°F until golden.
