  • 1 (3 oz.) cream cheese
  • 1/3 cup fruit preserves
  • 1/4 cup chopped nuts (walnuts, pecans or almonds)

Instructions

  1. Unroll crescent rolls and seal perforations to form 2 rectangles.
  2. Pat each into an 8 x 4-inch rectangle.
  3. Spread cream cheese on each rectangle.
  4. Top with fruit preserves and chopped nuts.
  5. Cut each rectangle into four 8 x 1-inch strips.
  6. Fold each strip in half and twist; they will be 1 x 4 inches.
  7. Place on a lightly greased foil-lined baking sheet.
  8. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 8 to 10 minutes or until golden brown.
  9. Cool and store in an airtight container.

Tips & Substitutions

For a creamier filling, consider blending the cream cheese with a bit of powdered sugar or vanilla extract. If you don't have fruit preserves, any jam or even fresh fruit can work well. Chopped chocolate or shredded coconut can be added for extra flavor. Ensure the crescent rolls are well-sealed to prevent filling leakage during baking.

Serving Suggestions

These fruit twists are perfect for breakfast or brunch, served alongside a bowl of fresh fruit or yogurt. They also pair beautifully with June's Date Tea Loaf for a delightful afternoon treat. Consider drizzling a bit of honey or a dusting of powdered sugar on top before serving for extra sweetness.

Storage & Reheating

Store the twists in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. For longer storage, refrigerate them for up to a week. To reheat, place them in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 5 minutes until warmed through, which helps retain their flaky texture.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use a different type of dough instead of crescent rolls?

Yes, you can substitute crescent rolls with puff pastry for a flakier texture or even biscuit dough for a heartier twist. Just adjust the baking time as needed until golden brown.

What fruits work best for the preserves?

Any fruit preserves will work, but favorites include strawberry, raspberry, or apricot. You can also mix flavors for a unique twist. Fresh fruits like berries or sliced peaches can be used as an alternative if you prefer a fresh taste.

Can these twists be frozen for later use?

Absolutely! You can freeze the unbaked twists by placing them on a baking sheet until firm, then transferring them to a freezer-safe container. When ready to bake, simply add a few extra minutes to the baking time when cooking from frozen.
