Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/3 cup shortening
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 package yeast
  • butter
  • cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Cut shortening into dry ingredients until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  2. Dissolve yeast in 1/4 cup warm water and let sit until frothy.
  3. Add the yeast mixture to the buttermilk and stir well.
  4. Divide the dough in half. Roll out each half flat with a rolling pin.
  5. Brush melted butter onto each rolled-out dough sheet.
  6. Sprinkle heavily with cinnamon and sugar over the buttered dough.
  7. Roll up each dough sheet long ways into a log.
  8. Lay the rolled dough into a greased Bundt pan.
  9. Bake at 450°F until golden brown, about 15 minutes.
