Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup Spry shortening
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 tablespoon boiling water
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 pound dates, chopped
  • 1 cup nuts, chopped

Instructions

  1. Cream sugar and shortening; add eggs, one at a time, and beat well.
  2. Add boiling water, then sifted flour with soda, cinnamon, and salt. Stir in chopped dates and nuts.
  3. Drop by heaping teaspoonfuls onto a cookie sheet sprayed with Pam.
  4. Bake at 350°F for 12 to 15 minutes.
