Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup cocoa
  • 3/4 cup sifted all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 3/4 cup chopped walnuts

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. Grease an 8-inch square pan.
  3. Cream together the shortening and sugar.
  4. Add vanilla and eggs; beat until light and fluffy.
  5. Add cocoa; mix thoroughly.
  6. Sift together the flour, salt, and baking powder.
  7. Stir in the sifted dry ingredients.
  8. Add 1/2 cup walnuts and mix.
  9. Spread mixture in the prepared 8-inch pan.
  10. Top with remaining walnuts.
  11. Bake for 25 minutes, or until done.
