Ingredients

  • 2/3 cup Crisco
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 6 tablespoons cocoa
  • 2/3 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 3/4 cups sifted flour
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup nuts, chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon soda

Instructions

  1. Blend Crisco, salt, vanilla, and cocoa until well combined.
  2. Gradually add brown sugar and cream mixture well.
  3. Add beaten egg and mix thoroughly.
  4. Sift flour and soda together.
  5. Add the flour to the creamed mixture, alternately with milk, mixing well after each addition.
  6. Stir in chopped nuts and blend evenly.
  7. Drop spoonfuls of batter onto greased baking sheets.
  8. Sprinkle the cookies with sugar.
  9. Bake in a moderate oven at 350°F (180°C) for 10 to 15 minutes.
