Ingredients

  • 4 oz. butter
  • 2 oz. shortening
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 3/4 cups flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon instant coffee

Instructions

  1. Cream butter and shortening together until smooth.
  2. Add sugar, brown sugar, vanilla, and egg yolk; mix well.
  3. Combine flour, salt, baking soda, baking powder, and instant coffee.
  4. Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing thoroughly.
  5. Shape dough into 1-inch balls and place on a sheet pan.
  6. Flatten each ball with the bottom of a cup or glass.
  7. Bake at 375°F (190°C) until golden brown, about 10 minutes.
