Ingredients

  • 1 c. butter
  • 1/2 c. Crisco
  • 3 c. sugar
  • 1 c. sweet milk
  • 5 eggs
  • 3 c. plain Red Band flour
  • 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 Tbsp. walnut flavoring
  • 1 tsp. butternut flavoring
  • 1 1/2 c. black walnuts

Instructions

  1. Cream sugar, butter, and Crisco together until smooth.
  2. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  3. Alternate adding sweet milk and flour, beginning and ending with flour.
  4. Blend the black walnuts and add to the batter.
  5. Beat the mixture at high speed for 8 to 10 minutes.
  6. Pour into a cold oven and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 1 hour and 15 minutes.
